About

Welcome!

My name is Abdi Gas and I am the CEO of a deaf-led, deaf-orientated charity called Deaf Unity. We are based in the UK but operate on an international platform. Working to empower and support deaf individuals and communities, we have a number of avenues of activity – see our site: http://www.deafunity.org

This is a blog of my trip to the United States, funded by the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust – http://www.wcmt.org.uk. I have been granted this amazing opportunity to travel to America for a month and carry out research into a number of different areas of the Deaf Community. The aim is to identify best practice and bring it back to the UK to share and inform both policy making and future activities and direction of my organisation.

Accompanying me is a long time friend and colleague – David Griffin. He is assisting as a jack-of-all trades: BSL/ASL interpreter, travel buddy and research assistant 🙂

Check out the blog for updates on our research findings, tourist snaps and musings.
